Review: Crossed

The human race becomes infected with raging insanity.  The survivors are few, and violent death awaits them at every turn.  Only this is told through the vision of Garth Ennis, one of the sickest minds out there.  The Crossed have no rhyme or reason.  After becoming infected, they only want to kill, rape, and defile anything that gets in their way.  This is some of the most violent and disturbing stuff Ennis has ever written, and it’s drawn in grisly detail by Jacen Burrows.

But it’s not just violent.  Crossed examines humanity and what we’re really made of when push comes to shove.  The Crossed themselves make great villains.  Each of them has a lot of character and their individual depravities are creative and gross.  We’ve all grown accustomed to the zombie genre, but Ennis does his best to put his protagonists through the wringer.  It takes grit to survive this world, and often times that means sacrificing the very things that make us human in the first place.  Few get out alive, and no one gets out unscathed.  If you’re a fan of extreme horror, this is a must-have.
